July 25, 2018

Making a career move – big or small – can be scary, especially if you’re questioning whether a change is right for you. At Ross Mortgage, we understand some of the fears you may have about a career transition as a loan officer because we’ve been there. However, we want to show you why making a move to the right lender could be the best career decision you’ll ever make!

If you’re an experienced loan officer thinking about making a career move in the industry but have some hesitations, continue reading to hear from fellow mortgage professionals who made the move to Ross Mortgage and successfully navigated big changes in their own careers.

What makes an employer stand out from the rest?

When making any career move, it’s important to look at what each potential employer has to offer. While being an ordinary loan officer is great, there are many perks that come with being a Ross Mortgage loan officer. Our impeccable reputation combined with our focus on career development and recognition of hard-working employees will put you on the fast track to success.

We’re a little bit smaller than most major independent mortgage bankers which allows us to pivot, make decisions faster and bring on new loan products quicker. These factors, along with our expertise in originating niche loans, including VA and renovation, give our loan officers the ability to serve any client’s financing needs and appeal to a wider segment of consumers (and agents).

What is the onboarding process like?

We understand how scary it can be to make a career move. That’s why we have a VIP service that helps our new team members get acclimated with all of our systems and enjoy carte blanche access to everyone at our corporate office. We try to do whatever we can to make their transition as smooth and seamless as possible.

Our disciplined approach to documenting and measuring all aspects of our business operations is a key component of our success as a company. That’s why we have a detail-oriented “System of Work”, which allows us to efficiently onboard loan officers and teach them our processes, procedures and systems. Additionally, our in-house underwriting, processing and compliance teams are always available to assist you with guideline questions.

What do career pathing opportunities look like?

At Ross Mortgage, we provide exclusive training courses, support for career advancement opportunities and access to the latest technology to help you exceed your goals. We were recognized in 2018 with a moCADEMY Award at the Motivity User Conference for our relentless focus on organizational optimization.

Another thing we do to empower our new loan officers is give them the ability to become entrepreneurs inside of Ross Mortgage, something I like to call “intrapreneurs.” We teach them how to own a business inside of our business and give them the freedom to run things the best they can.

It’s a team effort

Another thing that sets Ross Mortgage apart from the competition is our people. Conversing with other team members is a great way to get acclimated with the company culture and learn a few new things. Our current staff is outstanding when it comes to lending a helping hand with new employees. They’re constantly willing to step up and do whatever it takes to help their colleagues succeed. We have a big team atmosphere over here and everyone is willing to collaborate and answer any questions others have when needed.

What to ask when making a move

When I’m talking to potential candidates, I always get questions about why I would feel they would perform better at Ross Mortgage than at other lending companies. I think the biggest reason why they’d be successful here is they have the ability to close their loans quicker and have unlimited access to so much knowledge and experience between our team members and the corporate office. In fact, I’m still originating loans because I always want to know what’s going on in the industry to continue evolving our lending processes.

Career opportunities at Ross Mortgage

If I had to tell you one thing, it would be that Ross Mortgage is growing in an industry that’s shrinking. If you’re interested and you want to reach out, I’d love the opportunity to share with you why we’re growing and why we feel like we’re a company on the rise. We’re excited to bring in partners to the family!

Making sure our new employees feel comfortable in their new roles and can excel in their careers is of the utmost importance to us. In fact, we asked a few of our esteemed colleagues about their recent transition to Ross Mortgage. Here’s what they had to say:

What motivated you to make a career move to Ross? Did anything in particular make your decision easy?

“Ross Mortgage offered me the opportunity to advance my career and grow my own business within their corporation. Having worked for Ross Mortgage before, I knew they were a reputable company and the operations and support would allow me to grow in my business and reach my goals.”

“When I attended a real estate agent meeting at my local Ross Mortgage branch, I witnessed the support of Tim Pascarella and Tim Ross firsthand. Their dedication to both their employees and the communities they serve motivated me to join the Ross Mortgage team.”

What factors did you consider when changing roles/companies?

“I wanted to make sure I was moving to a company that offered a variety of mortgage products, but still allowed me the flexibility to close earlier, rush files and make exceptions when needed. It’s very important to work for a company that shares the same common goal of closing loans and serving our customers with smooth and seamless transactions.”

I was searching for a company that would give me the ability to offer different products, had a supportive management team, offered competitive pricing in the marketplace and provided back end support from processing, underwriting and marketing departments.”

As a seasoned professional who knows the industry and has an established client base, what are some of the things you look for in an employer?

“A team environment is key to being successful! You are only as good as your support staff, so if you don’t work for a company that helps their employees or does not allow for open communication, then it will be very tough to close loans. I have been in the mortgage industry for 15 years and this is the first company that truly shows an impeccable level of support and effort in all areas.”

“In my opinion, the most important thing an employer needs is a company culture centered around customer needs. While we have many things to do, we must focus on how we can provide the customer with the best experience so that they will entrust us with all of their mortgage financing needs and refer us to others.”
