A First-Time Homebuyer’s Story: Why I Chose Ross Mortgage as My Lender

We love hearing back from our customers after they’ve settled into their new home. Today, Ashleigh I. shares her experience as a first-time homebuyer.

What I’m about to say will come as no surprise to homeowners, especially first-time homebuyers like myself: Buying a house is one of the most exciting, yet stressful periods in a person’s life.

My fiancé, Matt, and I made the decision to start looking for a house earlier this year because we wanted to take the next step in our lives. We’ve been together for nine years and had been looking forward to making this new sought-after chapter a reality.

Matt and I had been dreaming about buying a house for years, but like many young couples, finances were an issue. We made the decision to buckle down and get serious about our monetary goals. We worked extremely hard over the past few years to make better financial decisions and save up for a down payment. Finally, the opportunity was here!

We truly lucked out during the beginning of the home buying process. We found a home on only the second day of searching, placed our offer and it was accepted immediately! After having a great inspection and going through the entire mortgage process with Ross Mortgage, the great news came to a startling halt: The appraisal came back $17,000 below our offer, and the home had been broken into after the initial inspection. The furnace, washer and dryer, stove and hot water heater were stripped from the home. These events were difficult for Matt and I to accept, but we had to move on. Eventually, we found a much nicer home in a better neighborhood. The rest is history!

We went through highs and lows during the home buying process, and I’m happy we chose to work with Ross Mortgage through it all. We initially chose Ross Mortgage because we thought we were going to need a FHA 203(k) mortgage loan, and they are highly reviewed for that loan type in our area. We later went with a traditional FHA mortgage loan because they home we chose did not need any repairs.

We were able to directly speak with our loan officer the very first time we called to inquire about mortgage options. You wouldn’t believe how many other mortgage companies we called before Ross Mortgage, only to be directed to make an appointment with an administrative assistant, or leave a voicemail and wait for someone to call us back. You want to be able to quickly speak to someone who will take the time to walk you through every step when you’re unfamiliar with the home buying process, and that’s exactly the treatment we received at Ross Mortgage!

From start to finish, Ross Mortgage made the entire process easy with their website, My Mortgage by Ross Mortgage mobile app and the online portal, where we could check the status of our loan and upload all of the necessary documents. (No fax machine needed!) Our loan officer was always available to answer our questions and any concerns we had, which was much appreciated.

Having gone through the home buying process with both the ups and the downs, I would advise first-time homebuyers to stay patient and optimistic without getting your hopes up too high. Work closely with you loan officer, and be as prepared as possible from the beginning for potential interruptions. Although it goes without saying, I will say it anyways: Always choose Ross Mortgage.
