Ross Mortgage Veteran Helps Fellow Service Member Buy a Home

At Ross Mortgage, we’re keenly aware of the profound impact a mortgage can have on the lives and futures of the individuals and families we serve. While we take great pride in helping people confidently navigate one of the biggest financial transactions of their life, we also understand that underneath every stack of papers is a larger story waiting to unfold. Today, former Marine, Daniel Hajduk, shares his unique homebuying story with us.

My homebuying journey started when my wife and I were moving back home from Chicago. We had always wanted to return back to Michigan, so when the opportunity for my wife to work remotely presented itself we took advantage of the ability to move back home. It was at this point that I began looking for job opportunities and eventually went into business with my brother.

Shortly after moving back to Michigan, we found the perfect house. It was accessible to town, sat on ten acres of land and had a little pond out back. We fell in love with it immediately! What was even more special about this particular home, was that it had been built by a Marine. This really resonated with us because my brother and I had both been Marines.

There was just one problem. Because I had just changed the trajectory of my career by going into business with my brother, this made it more challenging (although not impossible as I would soon find out) to get a mortgage.

It was at this point we contacted Eric Ensley, a loan officer at Ross Mortgage and a former infantry sergeant with the National Guard who had a passion for helping fellow Veterans understand their mortgage options.

With Eric’s help, we realized homeownership wasn’t necessarily out of the realm of possibility, and that there was a strong chance my wife and I would be able to use my VA benefits to buy a home.

While many Veterans are unaware of the mortgage benefits they’re eligible to receive through the VA, I happened to know a little bit about this program but was unsure how it applied to my circumstances. You see, while in training, I suffered from a stroke that partially paralyzed the right side of my body, preventing me from continuing to serve my country as a Marine. As such, I wasn’t sure whether I would qualify for a VA home loan.

This is where Eric and the Ross Mortgage team’s VA loan expertise was instrumental. In the end, we were able to use my VA benefits and get into our dream home for 0% down! Eric also helped me uncover some additional cost savings during the home buying process in connection with my disability and later refinance our VA loan.

Any time we can work with a service member or Veteran and their company, we do so. Eric was no exception. He was always accessible and more than willing to answer any questions we had. I found it extremely valuable to work with someone I could relate to. I can’t count the number of times I would call with a question and we’d end up talking for 30-minutes or more about our military days.

I would highly recommend Ross Mortgage to any Veteran looking for assistance during the home buying process. The team is one of the best VA lenders you’ll encounter and will walk you through your options so you feel informed and confident when making the big decision to buy a home.

Many thanks for sharing your experience at Ross Mortgage with us, Daniel. And thank you for your commitment to serving our country.
