Why I Chose Ross Mortgage: A Millennial Homebuyer’s Story
We love hearing from our customers after they’ve settled into their new home. Today, Lydia F. shares her experience as a first-time millennial homebuyer.
For millennials, the dream of homeownership often seems unattainable. I am a 27-year-old single woman and have been stuck in a renting cycle for years. Personally, I don’t know many homeowners who are my age. But as of recent, I am happy to say that I am a new homeowner, thanks to Ross Mortgage.
To be quite honest, I never thought I was in the right place in my life to purchase a home. It seemed like such a big responsibility, from both a lifestyle and financial perspective. Could I do it? I wasn’t sure. It was only until a few months ago when I met a Ross Mortgage loan officer through a coworker that things shifted into place.
My loan officer offered to pull my credit score and see if I was eligible for pre-approval. To my surprise, I was pre-approved for a mortgage loan almost instantly! Based on my pre-approval, my loan officer gave me a price range to start searching for homes, educated me on the types of loan products I qualified for—FHA and FHA 203(k)—and put me in touch with a realtor.
After my pre-approval, I couldn’t stop thinking about the possibility of homeownership. I liked the idea of having my own place, and I was sick of throwing money away while paying for rent. With the help of my loan officer and realtor, I was able to find a purchase my first home in just a few months. It was a dream come true!
Although I didn’t talk to other lenders prior to working with Ross Mortgage, I knew I didn’t want to work with a bank or large corporation. It worried me to think about working with a big company because you never know who you’re working with, and I didn’t want to be treated like “just another number” during one of the biggest purchases of my life.
I really liked that Ross Mortgage was small, and that my loan officer was someone I could trust. I got a family vibe the moment I started working with Ross. I could tell it was a close-knit group of people and that everyone had my best interest in mind. I always felt like I was the only person my loan officer was working with.
During the home buying process, I found the My Mortgage by Ross Mortgage app extremely useful. The mortgage calculator is the best thing ever, and I was constantly using it every time I found a house I was potentially interested in.
Although buying a house is exciting, it can be stressful and scary at times. The Ross Mortgage team saved me a lot of time and sanity during the home buying process because they spoke to me in terms I understood. I didn’t know anything about the mortgage business prior to the purchase of my home, and I appreciated their willingness to explain anything and everything I questioned.
If you’re like me—a millennial first-time homebuyer—and you think homeownership isn’t for you, I challenge you to reach out to a Ross Mortgage loan officer and see if you can get pre-approved for a mortgage loan. The reason I didn’t think I was ready for homeownership is because I had no idea how much a mortgage cost and I didn’t think it was something I could afford. I always thought a mortgage was a giant, extravagant expense. The reality? My mortgage payment is cheaper than my previous monthly rent, and I’m building equity. It’s been an amazing journey. Thanks to Ross Mortgage, I’ve started a life for myself. I have my own piece of property at the age of 27!
Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer, or this is your second (or third) time purchasing, I would absolutely recommend Ross Mortgage to any hopeful homebuyer out there. Thank you, Ross Mortgage!
