My Unexpected Experience as a First-Time Homebuyer

We love hearing back from our customers after they’ve settled into their new home. Today, Veronica Wesche talks about her experience as a first-time homebuyer.

As any first-time homebuyer knows, the process of buying a house, while exciting, can also be a little scary. My fiancé and I recently bought our first house after deciding it was time to settle down and build our roots. We ended up finding our dream home in Fowlerville, Michigan. And, to our surprise, the entire process of buying a home was much easier than we expected.

A friend who bought a home in the same area referred us to our realtor. It was through our realtor that we heard about Ross Mortgage. She referred us to our loan officer, Danielle Boote, the branch manager of Ross Mortgage’s Brighton location.

Since this was our first time buying a house, we didn’t know much about the mortgage application process and weren’t sure what to expect. But, Danielle and her team guided us every step of the way and made the process of getting a mortgage simple and easy to understand. She was even willing to meet with us outside of normal business hours on the weekend to accommodate our busy work schedule—which was a huge bonus for us!

When we met, she educated us about the different types of loans and worked with us to choose a mortgage that suited our needs. She even ran several price examples to help us determine how much house we could afford and which loan fit within our overall financial plan. Who knew there were so many different loan options to choose from!

After looking at all of the examples, we decided to get a Rural Development loan. To our surprise, it was one of the most affordable and cost-efficient ways to buy a house. Essentially, the USDA Rural Development loan program allows families with moderate incomes to buy homes in rural areas with 100% financing. To make sure our house qualified for the loan, Danielle entered the address on the USDA Rural Development website.

One of the main reasons we decided to get a Rural Development loan was because it came with zero-down financing. Although we had the option to put as much money as we wanted down on the house, it was nice to know there wasn’t a down payment requirement

Looking back, I can honestly say there were no surprises throughout the entire process. Danielle told us what paperwork we needed to gather, and once we provided her with all of the necessary documents, she took care of everything else. While our information was being processed, Danielle and her team kept us in the loop on everything pertaining to our loan application. The level of service we received exceeded my expectations and now we are happily settled in our new home! I would highly recommend Ross Mortgage to anyone in the process of buying a home.
