Moving to Another State: How Ross Mortgage Helped Me Relocate to Michigan

Buying a house can be one of the most exciting (and stressful) periods in a person’s life, especially as a first-time homebuyer moving to another state. I recently moved from Chicago after taking a new job in Michigan and had a great experience working with Ross Mortgage throughout the relocation process.
It wasn’t until after I took my new job in Michigan that my wife and I started our home search. It was always part of our plan to move back to Michigan (we had met there in college before moving to Chicago to start our careers), but the door of opportunity opened a little sooner than we expected.
You see, she is a teacher and wanted to finish out the school year with her students. So, I ended up moving to Michigan ahead of her to start my new job and begin looking for homes, while she finished out the school year.
Although miles separated us, we were able to share pictures of homes we were interested in looking at with each other. We learned pretty quickly that while pictures are a great to vet which homes to tour, they don’t always tell the full story, which is why I strongly recommend that anyone moving from out of state tries to see as many properties in person as possible.
We already had a real estate agent we were working with, but I would definitely recommend starting the home buying process by finding a local mortgage lender to work with first. Not only will they be able to tell you how much you can afford, that information will help your real estate agent help you determine your search criteria for homes in the area.
Prior to contacting Ross Mortgage, we had actually been working with another mortgage lender in the area, but ultimately decided to make the switch and I’m so glad that we did. The team at Ross Mortgage exceeded my expectations and was very responsive. I was always able to talk to someone when I called, they responded to my emails promptly and took the time to answer any questions I had. Although I’m sure I wasn’t my loan officer’s only customer, they made me feel like I was.
The Ross Mortgage team helped me obtain a conventional loan, which was my plan all along, and it worked out great. They helped me understand everything about my mortgage and went to my closing just in case I had any last-minute questions.
Once we had the house keys in our hands and it finally sunk it that we had a home of our own, it felt like we had reached a huge milestone. Buying a house was something my wife and I had been working toward for a while.
Although it took a while for us to find “the one,” and we lost a house we thought we had our heart set on along the way, our patience paid off and we ended up finding a house that was perfect for our growing family. Having a home to call our own was a really big deal for us, and Ross Mortgage helped us get there.
